How to Measure for a Chandelier
Chandeliers can make a big impression but they need to be the right scale for the room. Here's a general guide:
- Measure the length and width of your room in feet.
- Add those two numbers together.
- The sum of those two numbers should be the diameter of your chandelier in inches.
For example, if your room is 14 feet by 20 feet, those numbers added would be 34 and your fixture should be around 34 inches in diameter.
Chandeliers above a table should generally be1/2 to 2/3 the width of the table, and the bottom of the fixture should be around 30-36 inches from the table top.
A standard doorway is 36 inches. When buying a larger chandelier, please make note of its diameter and have a plan for how it will enter your home or business and the room where it will be installed.
